Just what you need to transfer video from Mini DV Camcorders to iMovie! Feb 26, 2011
By Alexandra A. Munroe

I looked all over the internet, went to the geeks at Best Buy an Radio Shack, and got a lot of misinformation. Finally, I found out from Apple that this is what they recommend. It is the exact one the Apple Store sells. They just couldn't get it to me overnight. It is just what you need to transfer video from Mini DV Camcorders to iMovie!
I've used it a number of times on different occasions and it works perfectly! Nothing else did. I have a SONY Mini DV Camcorder TRV-33 that is about seven years old and a new MacBookPro late 2010.
By the way, the input on the MacBookPro looks like it's nine pin, which threw off the "geeks." It actually does if you count them, but the cable is called 800/400. The input has a Y shaped icon that looks a bit like a zipper to the left of it, that means "firewire."
If you use a tripod when shooting, you do not need to stabilize the image when using the firewire to download. It will transfer much faster without image stabilization. If you shot it hand held, you might want to.
I hope this helps others spend less time searching for answers.

Terrific Firewire Nov 27, 2009

This firewire is an excellent buy! I have a 27" Mac and needed to upgrade my 400 firewire to 800 and am really glad I went with Belkin. It works perfectly. I have ordered other Belkin wires for my Macs through the years and have never been disappointed. Amazon prices always beat prices for the same or similar wires at the large box stores, too.

Great Price From Amazon Oct 18, 2010
By Harvey H. Willard I went searching for an 800 fire wire cable because I just purchased the IMac which went from 400 to 800 fire wire. Which left my camcorder useless. Finally I looked here at Amazon. Saved over $30 from other retailers. And it does what it is suppose to do.

No problems with a Canon HV20 and MacBook Pro running 10.7 Dec 19, 2011
By Andrew R. Robinson Just wanted to share, for those with a similar setup, that this cord is working perfectly for transferring both DV and HDV content from a Canon HV20 camcorder to a 2011 MacBook Pro running OSX Lion / 10.7

Works fine Mar 23, 2011
By AK Like everyone else, I purchased this to connect my old Panasonic mini-DV camcorder to new iMac. The quality looks good and iMovie recognized my camcorder straight away. Matching color with iMac is another plus.
